Transformed by the Transfiguration

Pastor Greg Walton tells how God's Spirit is at work among us.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made know to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.” 2 Peter 1:16

“Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” Matthew 17:4

1. WHAT THEY SAW

“And He (Jesus) was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him.” Matthew 17:2-3

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

2. WHAT THEY HEARD

“This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!” Matthew 17:5

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Psalms 111:10a

“The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at My presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground.” Ezekiel 38:20

3. WHAT THEY FELT

“But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise and have no fear.” Matthew 17:7

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.” Philippians 3:20-21

“Fix your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
